Diving with Nitrox in the Galapagos Islands

Do you Recommend Diving with Nitrox on a Galapagos Liveaboard?

Yes, for a dive liveaboard in the Galapagos Islands, we highly recommend diving with Nitrox. Nitrox allows for extended bottom time, meaning you can stay longer at dive sites, especially when encountering marine wildlife. This is particularly beneficial during multiple dives daily, as Nitrox helps reduce nitrogen buildup and can prevent shorter dive times as the day progresses. Moreover, diving with Nitrox often leaves you feeling less fatigued compared to diving with regular air, which is important when doing several dives per day in the Galapagos.

Do You Need a Nitrox Certification?

Absolutely! Diving with enriched air, commonly known as nitrox, requires specialized training and certification. A Nitrox certification equips you with essential knowledge to safely plan and manage nitrox dives, covering crucial topics such as oxygen toxicity, depth limits, and accurate tank analysis.

Certifications are available through well-known dive organizations like PADI, SDI, or SSI, and are essential for ensuring your dives remain safe and enjoyable.

If you're planning to join one of our Galapagos liveaboards but haven't yet completed your Nitrox certification—no worries! You can conveniently obtain your Nitrox certification right onboard for just $250 USD per person. This price covers both the course and your e-certification, making it easy to enhance your dive experience during your trip.

How Much Does Nitrox Cost on a Liveaboard?

The cost of nitrox fills on a liveaboard varies based on the charter length and whether you're completing a Nitrox certification onboard.

For divers already Nitrox certified, diving with Nitrox on the Aqua (our Citizen Science Expeditions) is priced at $250 USD per week. However, Nitrox is provided at no extra charge during our Luxury Citizen Science Expeditions. Throughout the trip, Nitrox is available for all scheduled dives, and onboard analyzers are provided for divers to conveniently verify their gas mixes.

Is it worth getting nitrox certified prior to my Galapagos liveaboard?

Absolutely! Getting Nitrox certified before your Galapagos liveaboard can significantly enhance your diving experience. Nitrox allows for longer bottom times, shorter surface intervals, and may reduce post-dive fatigue, helping you make the most of your time exploring the incredible marine biodiversity of the Galapagos Islands.

Completing your certification beforehand also ensures you arrive ready to dive with confidence and familiarity, maximizing your comfort and safety underwater. However, if your schedule doesn't permit certification in advance, remember you have the convenient option of getting certified onboard during your trip.
